Volunteer

We love our volunteers!

Kissing Point Netball is entirely run by volunteers, and we are very appreciative of those who give their time and energy to help the club run smoothly. With so many players and teams hitting the courts, we rely on our volunteers and we can always find ways to use more helping hands.

If you’d like to get more involved, there are lots of ways that’s possible and we would love to hear from you, whether that’s an annual role on the committee, a seasonal role helping to manage or coach a team, or an occasional role such as helping organise social events, taking photos for the club, or doing grounds’ duty when it’s your team’s turn.

Working with children check

All volunteers who are working directly with children are required to be certified with a Working With Children Check. This is done online via Service NSW and after completing the online form, you then present that at a Service NSW branch for verification. There is no charge for volunteers to be certified and the check lasts for five years. The club’s member protection officer then keeps each volunteer’s certification number on file.

Coach

All coaches at Kissing Point are volunteers.  Some are parents; some are talented players; some are enthusiasts without kids playing in the competition; all are spectacular!

We do our best to ensure they are well prepared and in a position to develop the players in their charge:

  • The Club supports completion of at least the Foundation Coaching course through Netball NSW The Development course from Netball NSW is also highly recommended for coaches
  • We do our best to match experience with the appropriate age group
  • We hold sessions throughout the season for coaches to confer and share difficulties and successes
  • KNA makes additional training available throughout the season and shares a range of online resources

If you’re interested in coaching in the coming season, please make sure you indicate your interest while registering.  If you have any questions about coaching or developing your coaching skills, contact our coaching convenor Megan or any member of the Kissing Point Netball Club Committee.

Our coaching resources’ page has some great links and online videos for various skills and drills.

Manage a Team

Managers play an important role in supporting the coach and players.  Most are parents of players in the team and do a great job making sure everyone knows where they need to be and at what time.

Some responsibilities include:

  • Preparing a team contact list
  • Finding a mutually convenient training time (one of THE hardest tasks all season!)
  • Supporting the coach
  • Collecting the score sheet for each match and ensuring the scoring for the game is done
  • Organising any rosters for your team such as fruit, scoring or grounds’ duty
  • Finding reserves if requested by the Coach – which means understanding KNA’s borrowing policy
  • Passing on communications from the Club to the team
  • Organising occasional team gatherings

If you are interested in managing a team please note that on the Registration Form or contact anyone from the Kissing Point Netball Club Committee for more information.

Umpire

Ever thought about being an Umpire?

Umpires are crucial to our netball community and their role is to help keep the game safe, fair and fun for everyone. Being an umpire is a great way to be more involved in netball, develop your own understanding of the rules and build your personal skills such as communication, resilience and leadership.

KNA requires each club to provide an umpire for each team that we have playing in each competition. Umpires are placed on timeslots and grades based on their experience and development. New umpires are always welcome and are well supported through our training and buddying programs.

You must be turning at least 12 (and in High School) to begin umpiring for Kissing Point. Umpires are paid, and as you improve and are assessed for your next level of umpiring badge your rate of pay increases.
